Parents: make the right choice when selecting the best Infant Care for your child!

Kids R Kids Learning Academy of Watkinsville is the best choice for your infant's care.

We offer a safe, loving and nurturing program for infants. Our infant program is designed to foster the needs of newborns up to one year. Kids `R` Kids infant program is divided into our "Creepers" classroom - babies 6 weeks to 9 months, and our "Walkers" classroom - babies 7 months to 16 months. At these early stages of development, the infants are beginning to discover themselves, their caregivers, and the surrounding environment. Kids R Kids is the best choice for your infant!

Our exclusive Kids ‘R’ Kids Infant BIG STEPS CURRICULUM™ takes into account that development and learning begin prenatally and continue throughout life. The young infants are immersed in curriculum that invites and promotes multiple opportunities for motor and sensory activities. Their cognitive skills are developed through planned activities that invite them to interact with the environment to demonstrate eagerness and curiosity, persistence, creativity, and problem-solving. Literacy and language development are nurtured.

Kids R Kids #23 Watkinsville says it is time to choose a high quality Summer Camp for your child. We encourage all parents to research summer camp programs to find the one that best suits your child's needs. We are confident that you will choose Kids R Kids #23 Watkinsville!

    Summer Camp, Choose Safety

Often, parents unknowingly make the assumption that all camps are regulated and operating by safety guidelines to protect their children. Unfortunately, many in Georgia are not. Additionally, we know from experience that summer time can hold the biggest risk and highest injury rates. It stands to reason that the more active children are, the more vulnerable they are to bumps and bruises. That's why we believe parents should be aware that not all camps are licensed child care programs which adhere to state-mandated rules for health, safety and supervision.

Thoughts of summer time generally conjure up images of sun-filled days. But, when it comes to finding a summer camp for school aged children or toddlers, some parents are overcome by anxiety. Many working families are faced with a child care void and will be seeking full-time supervision for their children. Others will be looking to find a place to enhance a specific skill or interest that their child has demonstrated. Some may want to let their child explore their independence in an overnight setting. For the brave, it is a patchwork of all of the above.

Hundreds of camps across the state operate without any state oversight by the Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL).

    Licensed Camps Focus on Safety

    - Background checks, fingerprinting are required; no person with a criminal history is employed

    - A lead teacher or camp counselor must have a Child Development Associate credential, Technical Certificate of Credit in School Age and Youth Care or an Associate Degree in Early Childhood or Childcare

    - Teachers, counselors must be at least 18 years of age

    - At least half the staff is CPR/First Aid trained and at least one trained counselor must be on hand wherever children are present (All Kids R Kids staff is CPR/First Aid trained).

    - The maximum counselor/child ratio for children age 6 and older is 1 to 25; Kids R Kids #23 Watkinsville maintains a much lower staff/child ratio

    - Meals and snacks must meet USDA guidelines and children and staff are required to use proper hand washing and sanitary practices

    - Equipment and toys are inspected to be safe, clean, and must be free from hazards

    - Drivers must be at least 18 years old, have current CPR and First Aid certification and all vehicles undergo annual safety inspections and are equipped with proper safety restraints as mandated by the National Highway Safety and Federal Transit Administrations

    - Licensed programs are subject to unannounced visits by state inspectors at least twice a year. For a list of licensed centers: www,decal.ga.gov

Kids ‘R’ Kids  #23 Watkinsville offers a variety of unique features and advantages that set us apart from traditional child care or day care centers and mark us as an industry leader in early childhood education. Here are a few advantages in choosing Kids ‘R’ Kids  #23 Watkinsville:

Our facility is individually owned and operated. Our owner is on-site full-time to ensure her availability to staff and parents. Most of our staff are parents or grandparents. Their children are having a great time growing up in a family business.

Our exclusive curriculum propels Kids R Kids Learning Academy far beyond the day care industry. Our Corporate Office has a full-time Kids R Kids Education Department and is always expanding the curriculum for a truly tailored approach to the early childcare industry.

Your child’s safety and security is important to us. Our facility has the highest possible childcare safety precautions, including features such as security cameras, staffed front desks, telephones in every room, and a coded, secure entrance.

Our program values are exceptional. We strive to remain affordable, while maintaining the highest standards in childcare, early childhood education, curriculum programming, and state-of-the-art facilities.

We offer a kid-sized cafeteria where nutritious meals are served daily. In our full-service kitchen our food service staff prepares USDA-approved meals in a sanitary environment away from classrooms.

Unlike more traditional day care centers or child care providers, our classrooms feature tempered glass walls for maximum visibility and safety. This promotes an open, bright atmosphere as well as a clean environment. Developmental transitions to the next classroom are smoother when a child is able to see where he will be moving and, of course, where he has been.

Internet access is always available for parents and grandparents to become involved in their child’s daily activities at school by viewing a password-secured site.

Infant, child and adult certification in CPR and First Aid is mandatory for our entire staff.

All Kids R Kids facilities have a similar look and layout. Therefore, families relocating have a familiar place for their child care and school-age needs in their new community.

School buses with seat belts transport children to and from Oconee County elementary schools as well as to planned field trips throughout the community.

Large separate playgrounds are designed for ultimate play for infants, toddlers, preschool and school-age children and are built to meet the American Society for Testing and Materials and Consumer Product Safety Commission guidelines.

Kids ‘R’ Kids  #23 Watkinsville is dedicated to maintaining a loving, happy, friendly environment. We understand that love is the most important key to any child’s growth.

Kids R Kids #23 Watkinsville believes that finding some much needed “just us” time is an important part of maintaining a healthy relationship with your spouse or significant other. But spending fun and quality time together with the whole family also is crucial! The recipe for a successful “at home family date night” is simple, easy and affordable. Start with yummy food, throw in a fun activity that can be enjoyed by every family member, and wrap it up with a family movie complete with PJs and popcorn!

Creating positive childhood memories helps establish a safe and firm foundation for your child(ren) as they continue to learn and grow. While it may seem like you have to pull out all the stops to create a family night that won’t have eyes rolling (if that’s even possible), the simpler and easier you make the planning on yourself, the more likely you’ll find yourself enjoying the night!

If tantrums or fights break out, deal with them as best you can but make an effort not to let it ruin the night. No family is perfect but spending time together as a family is an excellent way of reminding your children that they are part of a family unit that loves and appreciates them!

Kids R Kids #23 Watkinsville encourages parents to spend quality time with their children.

Most parents do value quality family time, but all too often their lifestyle doesn't lend itself to "togetherness." Even when they plan special time with their children, things don't always go smoothly. Here are a few helpful tips for making the time spent together happy and productive for all:

    If you spend time at work during the week and your child spends the majority of time in school or at childcare, staying home and having an unstructured day during the weekend might be a better way to nurture a relationship than going to see a movie or going to the zoo. A relaxing time doing what you all enjoy--which may be as simple as fixing pancakes for breakfast or going on a hike--may be the best use of your time;

    Consider the basics: hunger and sleep. It's difficult to have fun with a tired or hungry child (or adult for that matter). Try to keep naps on schedule. Eat an early lunch if you're going out for the afternoon, or take along a simple lunch;

Do something with your children that you like to do. If you do something you enjoy, the pleasure is often contagious. Sometimes let children join in your projects. The adult world is appealing to children. After all, children want more than anything to be "big." They also want to spend time with their parents.

Remember, kids are kids for only a short time. Building a strong relationship with them now means you can enjoy the rewards for a lifetime.

Kids R Kids has been a leader in early education since we opened in January 2000. Devoted to being the "smart choice" for families like yours who make cultivating a smarter child a priority, we continue to raise standards and expectations in the education of infants, toddlers and preschool-aged children.

We do this through a powerful combination of:

    • The daily implementation of effective and exclusive curricula--First Class for core learning and Brain Waves for brain development
    • The use of state-of-the-art technology in our classrooms
    • The uncompromising commitment of highly trained and skilled teachers
    • Regular assessments to track progress

Kids R Kids #23 Watkinsville offers special programs in music and language as part of your child’s tuition. These weekly language and music classes are provided in each classroom from infants through Pre-K.

Fabiana Hayden is our Spanish language instructor. She teaches language through many fun activities such as puppets, interactive games, singing, and role playing.

Recently, we have expanded our language program to include Chinese. Our Chinese language instructor, Song Qi, is a teacher at the Athens Chinese School, a non-profit, non-political and non-religious organization affiliated with the Chinese Student Union (CSU) at the University of Georgia. Its purpose is to promote Chinese language education and help the young appreciate Chinese culture.

We are happy to have Amanda Martin teach our weekly music program. As with the language classes, the music program is offered weekly in each classroom from infants through Pre-K.

We all know young children are well suited to learn multiple languages and that music enhances brain development. Your child can benefit from these and other fun and stimulating programs offered by Kids R Kids #23 Watkinsville

Kids R Kids #23 Watkinsville believes that with the holidays behind us and the new year ahead, it can be easy for children (and adults!) to fall into a slump and have wintertime blues. The shorter days and longer nights with no fun or festive days in sight can make for a rough time of year. But it’s important to cultivate and demonstrate an attitude of gratitude year-round. Your children are always looking to you to determine how to treat others and what to prioritize.

Infants, toddlers, and preschool children usually have their needs met without any thought of what it takes to provide for them. Food is usually available to satisfy varying tastes and cravings. Shelter and clothing are provided and a young child has no thought of what it takes to meet those crucial needs. Parents often spend so much time meeting their child’s needs and seeking to provide the best education, environment, and personal experience they can easily overlook the need to balance the giving with gratefulness. Check out this article for creative ways you can teach your children the importance of being generous and gracious.

Kids R Kids #23 Watkinsville Encourages Parents to Spend Quality Time with their Children.

Most parents do value spending time with their children, but all too often our lifestyle doesn't lend itself to "togetherness." Even when we plan special time with them, things don't always go smoothly. Here are a few helpful tips for making the time spent together happy and productive for all:

If you spend time at work during the week and your child spends the majority of time in school or at childcare, staying home and having an unstructured day during the weekend might be a better way to nurture a relationship than going to see a movie or going to the zoo. A relaxing time doing what you all enjoy--which may be as simple as fixing pancakes for breakfast or going on a hike--may be the best use of your time.

Consider the basics: hunger and sleep. It's difficult to have fun with a tired or hungry child (or adult for that matter). Try to keep naps on schedule. Eat an early lunch if you're going out for the afternoon, or take along a simple lunch.

Do something with your children that you like to do. If you do something you enjoy, the pleasure is often contagious. Sometimes let children join in your projects. The adult world is appealing to children. After all, children want more than anything to be "big." They also want to spend time with their parents.

Remember, kids are kids for only a short time.Building a strong relationship with them now means you can enjoy the rewards for a lifetime.

    Make Believe.jpg

Kids R Kids #23 Watkinsville. A little boy decides to go to the "store " so he grabs a big cardboard box and pushes the box around the living room looking for the "groceries" his family needs -- a plastic cup, a newspaper and a toy -- and drops them in the box. He pretends to pay for his purchases and then proudly tells his parents, "I bought our food."

Make-believe is a necessary facet of a child's play. Pretending gives him a chance to:

    Imitate adults to help him understand his environment;

    Re-enact familiar situations, both good and bad, as a way of dealing with emotions;

Develop his imagination by creating fantasies, and

Learn about himself as an individual and how he fits into society.

When your child pretends, he isn't receiving outside commands or controls -- he's in control so he can take his every day, routine world and turn it into a magic place.

Your child will start by imitating you around the house, and will progress through the years to more "dramatic acting" -- possibly even becoming the commander of a vital space mission to Mars!

    Kids R Kids News

    Winter 2016

    # The weather has been a little unpredictable lately so please make sure your child wears a coat to school each day since we try to go outside. Also, make sure the extra clothes in your child’s cubby are appropriate for the weather.

    # Holiday parties for the classrooms will be in Friday, December 16. Check with your child’s teacher for more details.  If you are providing treats for your child’s classroom, make sure they are age appropriate and please remember no nuts or nut products are allowed due to allergies.

    # If you are going to be out during the holidays, please let us know. We will have sheets posted on the classroom doors to let us know which days your child will be here so we can staff appropriately. If you have absence credits, you are responsible for half of the tuition. If you are out of absence credits, you still pay your full tuition.

    # It is vital that you sign your child in and out each day on the tablet at the front desk. This is required by the state and helps keep an accurate record of your child’s attendance. Please make sure anyone else picking up your child understands that they will need to sign in/out and may need to provide ID. Thanks for your help in this matter.

    # Please help us keep illnesses to a minimum by reminding your to child wash his/her hands upon arrival. We wash hands several times a day per state requirements and this greatly helps to decrease the illnesses around the building. Also, if your child is out sick, please let us know so we can post it on our illness board to let other families know

    # Assessments will be going out this week in the Creepers through Early Learners classrooms. If you have any questions and would like to set up a conference with your child’s teacher, a sign up sheet will be on the classroom  door.

    # Please do not leave children unattended in your car, even if you run in for just a minute.  Please bring them in with you.

Kids R ids #23 Watkinsville believes that finding some much needed “just us” time is an important part of maintaining a healthy relationship with your spouse or significant other. But spending fun and quality time together with the whole family is also crucial! The recipe for a successful “at home family date night” is simple, easy and affordable. Start with yummy food, throw in a fun activity that can be enjoyed by every family member, and wrap it up with a family movie complete with PJs and popcorn!

Creating positive childhood memories helps establish a safe and firm foundation for your child as they continue to learn and grow. While it may seem like you have to pull out all the stops to create a family night that won’t have eyes rolling (if that’s even possible?) the simpler and easier you make the planning on yourself, the more likely you’ll find yourself enjoying the night!

If tantrums or fights break out, deal with them as best you can but make an effort to not let it ruin the night. No family is perfect but spending time together as a family is an excellent way of reminding your children that they are a part of a family unit that loves and appreciates them!

At Kids R Kids #23 Watkinsville we know that with the cooler temperatures coming its important to remember to dress your children warmly as they play outdoors in leaf piles and pumpkin patches. Fresh air is the perfect atmosphere for some fun memories! Without the proper attire however, playing outside can quickly become uncomfortable and sometimes even dangerous to your child’s health.

Fall is here and that means cool breezes in the morning and a chill in the air at night. Autumn is a beautiful season when the leaves are changing colors and fun family holidays are right around the corner. With cooler weather it’s important your child is dressed appropriately to play outside. Finding a balance between clothing that is warm enough but not too warm can sometimes be a challenge. Here are some practical, easy ways you can keep the outdoor play going for longer this season by being prepared and dressing appropriately.

    • Always have a jacket nearby
    • Dress in layers
    • Wear comfortable closed-toe shoes
    • Dress in clothes that are easy to put on and off
    • Keep a hat and gloves nearby for colder days

One of a child’s most fun and exciting activities is playing outdoors. During the autumn months, playing outside is not just about running around; there are many learning opportunities for children who experience the changing weather and seasons. In a preschool environment, children can learn about the different seasons while they play.

To expand your child’s experience on the playground, contactKids R Kids #23 Watkinsville. They have several age-appropriate playgrounds, which are separated to ensure the optimal play experience for every child. They also take learning beyond the classroom by allowing children to experience their environment in a safe and nurturing manner.

Preparing your child for an excellent educational future is a major decision. To get help making your decision, contact Kids R Kids #23 Watkinsville. We will answer your questions, tell you about our excellent curriculum and offer a tour of our school.

The first five years of your child’s life are crucial for development. Your child is learning and developing through every experience at home, outside, and in the environment and other surroundings. That’s why it’s important to give your child the best opportunity for engaging in creative learning activities.

Choosing whether or not to attend preschool is an important decision for every parent. Your decision will influence your child’s learning experience now and in the future. As you do your research, it’s important to consider a preschool environment that fosters personal attention while providing the love and support that helps your child feel comfortable and safe. Here are some benefits of preschool to consider as you make your choice.

The opportunity to experience small group interaction – Your child will receive individual attention from instructors and learn to communicate thoughts and feelings in a small group learning arrangement.

Experience an accelerated foundation – A quality preschool will have a quality curriculum. Your child will have an accelerated foundation for future learning and be better prepared for the next step on the educational journey.

Learn better skills – Preschool creates the opportunity for your child to develop decision-making, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Opportunities to explore and be creative - In a quality preschool, your child will have many opportunities to explore interests and experiment with different learning styles. There will also be opportunities to be creative while visiting various learning stations and playing with other children.

Social and emotional development - Preschool can help your child develop better emotional and social skills.

Better educational exposure – When your preschool is accredited and has a quality and well-trained staff, your child will learn math, reading, science, writing, music, art and more! These subjects help your child build up her imagination and boost her creative potential.

There are more than 3000 licensed early learning centers in Georgia, including Kids R Kids #23 Watkinsville.

The regulatory agency for these centers is the Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL). Unfortunately the exact number of exempt or unlicensed centers is unknown because there is no adequate tracking system and no requirement that these programs undergo routine inspections as do the licensed centers. Therefore regulators lack vital information about the safety hazards within unlicensed settings.

A national survey indicates that 4 out of 5 parents don't have enough information to differentiate licensed care from license-exempt programs and assume all programs are licensed.

When choosing a child care center for your child, here are some important questions to ask:

    # Is this center licensed in the State of Georgia?

    # Is this center Quality Rated?

    # Does this center require Criminal Background Checks on all staff?

    # Does this center adhere to state teacher/child ratios?

    # Does this center require staff CPR/First Aid training for minimum 50% of staff?

    # Does this center use only positive forms of corrective discipline?

    # Does this center comply with the rigorous transportation requirements, including passenger

check list to ensure children are not left on the bus?

    # Is this center subject to unannounced inspections for program oversite by the State?

    # May I see your most current State Regulatory Review?

When choosing a child care center for your child, keep in mind that the above list of questions does not apply to exempt (unlicensed) care givers!

There are generally two kinds of parents – those who “wing it” and those who are particular about every particular thing. The particular parents tend to care about structure and are often strict about their child’s routines. The parents who “wing it” tend to respond to all their child’s demands in the moment and are flexible with routines.

While there is room for parents to be flexible about establishing boundaries and guidelines for their toddlers, routines help toddlers feel comfortable and secure in knowing there is certainty and predictability in their lives. As toddlers grow and develop, they need a strong sense of safety. Routines help toddlers learn how to interact with the world by doing the same things over and over again. The bottom line is that patterns help toddlers learn.

When there is routine and structure in the home, toddlers tend to be more calm and relaxed. Changes to schedules and routines can be particularly stressful for young children. It is not uncommon for a child who is used to mommy putting him to sleep every night to throw a fuss when the new babysitter tries to do the same thing. Changes in routine make toddlers uncertain and scared because they notice when something is different.

The Four Phases of Early Childhood Development

At Kids R Kids #23 Watkinsville, preschool is just one of the four phases vital to your child’s development. The phase that follows this is the school phase. The two phases preceding preschool (which are arguably the most important but often get overlooked) are the infant and toddler stages.

If your child is not being stimulated according to a well thought out curriculum during the first 5 years of his or her life (the first three phases), chances are that he or she will have learning related difficulties in later life - a fact that any child psychologist will attest to. Well thought out curricula, like the Kids ‘R’ Kids Brain Waves Curriculum and Steam Ahead Curriculum, will support the growth of neural pathways through play-like activities, and so ensure that your child develops the necessary language, social-emotional, cognitive and physical abilities.

The infant phase starts at 6 weeks and ends when your child turns one. For most of this phase, a child is not yet ready to partake in a group activity and needs individualized care and attention in order to develop adequately.

The toddler phase runs from one to two years of age and there needs to be a strong focus on experimental learning (learning through trying). Keep your child’s natural curiosity in mind in order to make certain that he or she develops the necessary ability to gain understanding of his or her surroundings through asking questions.

From two to five, your child is in the preschool phase and needs to be prepared for the challenges that lie ahead, namely elementary school. The focus here needs to be primarily on character development, self-confidence, vocabulary, problem solving and decision making skills. After this phase is completed successfully, your child will be ready for the final stage of early childhood development, which runs from five to twelve years of age. Here, he or she needs to be challenged constantly to ensure growth and learn to work alone and as part of a group.

Her teaching philosophy is inspired from her love for languages, teaching languages to her son, and essentially, from the principles of the Communicative Approach in Second Language Acquisition.

Also, we are happy to have Ms Amanda Martin teach our weekly music program. As with the language classes, the music program is offered weekly in each classroom from infants through Pre-K.

As we gear up for the new academic school year, at Kids R Kids #23 Watkinsville, there are some simple activities a parent can keep in mind to help their new preschooler thrive.

First-time preschool parents are now preparing their little scholars for the new adventure of preschool. It’s an exciting time in your child’s life, and for your child’s brain development! Many parents mistakenly believe that a child’s developing brain only begins to absorb valuable skills and information upon entering elementary school. However, the development of the human brain begins at birth and progresses throughout the first 5 years of life. In fact, if a child is not given the appropriate opportunity to learn literature, language, social/emotional and physical skills during this time in their life, there are chances they will have difficulty maintaining the academic pace of their peers when they begin elementary school.

Kids R Kids #23 Watkinsville is proud that in 2015, after a year of hard work, we achieved a Quality Rated certification from DECAL, the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning. There are 21 childcare centers within a seven mile radius of Kids R Kids. We are one of only 3 in this area who are Quality Rated.

Quality Rated is operated by the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL), the department of state government responsible for meeting the early education and child care needs of Georgia’s children and families. Among other things, DECAL also administers the lottery funded Georgia’s Pre-K Program and licenses/oversees the state’s child care programs.

Any child care program participating in Georgia’s Quality Rated has agreed to meet standards that exceed the state’s licensing requirements and is committed to improving the quality of care it provides to children.

Based on the results of a rigorous application process, programs are awarded one star, two stars, or three stars. A star rating – regardless if it is one, two or three stars – indicates a higher quality program. Stars are awarded based on a combination of points gathered from an independent observation and a portfolio that demonstrates that the program meets standards above and beyond what licensing requires. The number of stars simply reflects scores above certain levels. The Quality Rated system was designed so that any parent selecting a program participating in Quality Rated can feel confident that they are enrolling their child in a program that is committed to continuous quality improvement and higher quality standards.

It’s not unusual for a parent to experience daily stress from a job, finances, or simply everyday living. But sometimes stress can also affect children. New environments, progressing through preschool, childhood friendships, sporting events, and sibling rivalries are just a few situations that can create stress in a young child. While many of the childhood stressors need parental attention, some will be resolved with time and tender loving care. One of the best remedies for a child who is experiencing stress and anxiety is a few motivational words or actions from the parent. Here are five creative ways you can encourage your child and make any day a lot better:

Take a Break. Exchange a normal routine for something more fun. Think about something you can do that brings an unexpected smile. One example is to pick your child up early from daycare or preschool and go enjoy a fun day at the park or maybe a movie.

Speak encouraging words. Tell your child something very specific that you admire about him or her. Don’t just say, “I love you.” But say, “You made me so proud today. I saw how nice you were to the little boy at the playground.”

Help your child remember. Purchase or make an item that helps your child remember something positive and special that has happened. The idea is to create a way for positive words or memories to be visible and not forgotten.

Spend some quality time together. Schedule a weekend with your child. Choose some special events that provide quality time to talk, laugh, and listen. A camping trip and fishing are two perfect opportunities for quality time together.

Send your child to a summer camp. Enroll in a camp for the summer or another child-friendly activity with plenty of love, nurturing, encouragement, as well as opportunities to create new friendships.

While encouraging words and activities may seem small to a parent, they can make a HUGE difference to a child. Sometimes children don’t know how to express what they are feeling. Quality time with a parent can be just what a child needs to feel better. If you are looking for more ideas for ways to offer a loving and nurturing environment to your preschooler talk to the experts at Kids R Kids #23 Watkinsville. They balance learning with fun and provide an engaging summer camp experience as well.

    Are sunscreens safe for children?

Yes. Not only are sunscreens safe for children over age 6 months, if used regularly in childhood they can prevent skin cancers from developing in later life.

    How should sunscreens be applied?

Sunscreens are very effective when used properly. Follow these guidelines to give yourself the most protection:

    • Cover all exposed areas, including your ears, lips, face and back of your hands.
    • Don't skimp; apply a generous layer. Smooth it on rather than rub it in. A rule of thumb is that 45 ml (a shot glass) of sunscreen is needed to cover all exposed skin to attain the stated level of protection.

The CDC has published a great article, Play it Safe in the Sun: A Guide for Parents, that furnishes important information on how to protect children from the sun while they are having fun playing outdoors. http://www.cdc.gov/cancer/skin/pdf/cycparentsbrochure.pdf
